Romance, Action, and a Fake Fiancé: Be Your Knight Had Me Hooked!
Hi there!
So where to start this.
Let's start with the fact that
yesterday was when I finished binging this mini Cdrama named Be
your Knight starring Fang Zhi Xin and Yang Yu Xi.
And as someone who loves swoony
romances and with a dearth of them in the drama scene nowadays, I loved every
bit of it. Now I am not saying that this drama was a masterpiece or anything of
that sort. However, with the number of mini dramas being produced in the Cdrama
scene nowadays, this was a drama which stood out with a decent enough
storyline, intrigue and the ability to keep me hooked till the end.
Though I watch dramas for their
plot *wink* *wink*, I would definitely say that the actors were quite *clears
throat* talented.
Seriously though, these actors
could act and I would love to see them in dramas having a bigger production. In
fact, I am so impressed by Fang Zin Xin that I am thinking about checking out another one
of his works titled Present, Is Present.
Now that we know how much I like
it let us get into the drama and the synopsis.
(could contain spoilers after
this)
So, the story goes like this…
Our female lead gets into a
dispute with her fiancé causing him to get injured. However, she soon discovers
a man who looks exactly like her fiancé (that’s our male lead btw). She asks
him to pose as her fake fiancé and this is how all the magic starts as we get
into the conflict of them overcoming the fact that her fiancé is fake and how
to hide that with the backdrop of a drug syndicate.
So let us talk about our
female lead Cheng Che
The character is played by Yang
Yu Xi and shall I say she is the ultimate beauty with the brains. She is no
damsel in distress and knows how to handle her own problems. Though I do love
her moments of vulnerability especially when she is with the male lead or her
moments of shyness when she is teased by him. Their chemistry is both swoon
worthy and adorable.
Her dresses though! On God what
would I not give to wear those amazing, elegant and beautiful dresses. I love
the dresses worn by Chinese women in the republican era – they are a wonderful
combination of elegance, modesty and modernity.
Now about our male lead Ye Ran
The character is shown as what
you would expect from the male of an action romance drama- sexy, dark and
mysterious and knows how to use his fists. He has that swoony vibe of – “I will
kill and die for you”. What I loved the most about this couple was how mature
their relationship was and how little the misunderstandings were which is
usually used as a plot device in such dramas. I liked how even if they were
separated from each other and had little knowledge about the others plans they
were always ready to cover for each other.
Setting
Now the drama is set in a very
dark overall environment with black and dimly lit interiors. Though I did like
some of the shots-they were beautiful, the editing felt very (how should I say
this) poor and choppy and too fast paced almost like the difference between
Wattpad fanfiction and an actual novel by a professional writer. Though I do
think this is a disease which plagues the entire Chinese mini drama industry.
So overall,
If I were to compare this drama
to the other mainstream Cdramas and then rate it I would rate it a 3/5
But if I am to compare it to mini
Cdramas I would rate it would be a 4/5.
